Fall Colors“Mark Your Calendars” – 2012 Driftless Area Art Festival will be held on
September 15, 10:00 – 5:00 and September 16, 10:00 – 4:00

The Festival is Located in Soldiers Grove, Wisconsin and for lodging you are welcome to come and be our guests here at the
Franklin Victorian Bed & Breakfast in Sparta, WI while you visit the area and the festival.
The Driftless Area Art Festival is a celebration of the visual, performance, and culinary arts of the Driftless Area, which includes Southwest Wisconsin, Northwest Iowa, Southeast Minnesota, and Northwest Illinois.  Just in its 8th year, it is already being recognized as a unique regional event.  Not only is the event itself a pleasure, but the trip there– though the scenic Driftless Area in fall colors– is a enjoyable and memorable experience. Come, enjoy the scenery and experience the drive threw the area and all it has to offer everyone!

Biking, Along the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trails and More!

Biking trail tunnelPick your ride based on your skill level! Because along the Elroy-Sparta Bike Trail there are over 101 miles of connecting trails for all levels. You can get a bike shuttle from the Franklin Victorian Bed & Breakfast when you are our guests and we will shuttle you to any of the small towns along the trail depending on your level and the miles you would like to go. It is more down hill from the Elroy end back to Sparta. We have the daily and annual bike passes on-site for you to purchase also. Come join the fuel-efficient adventure! “Biking” and come to Sparta, Wisconsin. It is a great individual, group or family activity. Plus, a healthy way to enjoy your summer! We Made a New Fruit Recipe & Celebrated July 4th!

Blueberry Streusel CobblerCelebrating the 4th of July many of us think about trying something new! At the Franklin Victorian Bed & Breakfast I did just that today for our guests for breakfast. It was Easy to Bake and Easy to Make.  We hope you make it to and celebrate with a new recipe and a wonderful Comfort Food.

Blueberry Streusel Cobbler
Ingredients:
1 pint fresh blueberries
1 (14-ounce) can Sweetened Condensed Milk (NOT evaporated milk)
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
3/4 cup plus 2 Tablespoons cold butter
2 cups, biscuit baking mix, divided
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped nuts, (I used pecans)
Vanilla Ice Cream or Whip Cream
Blueberry Sauce (recipe follows)

1. Preheat oven to 325 degrees. In bowl, combine blueberries, Sweetened Condensed Milk and lemon peel.
2. In large bowl, cut 3/4 cup butter into 1 1/2 cups biscuit mix until crumbly; add blueberry mixture. Spread in greased 9-inch square baking pan.
3. In small bowl, combine remaining 1/2 cup biscuit mix and sugar; cut in remaining 2 tablespoons butter until crumbly. Add nuts. Sprinkle over cobbler.
4. Bake 1 hour and 10 minutes or until golden. Serve warm with ice cream or whip cream. Add Blueberry Sauce. Refrigerate leftovers if you have any….

Blueberry Sauce: In saucepan, combine 1/2 cup white sugar, 1 tablespoons cornstarch, 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon and 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg. Gradually add 1/2 cup water. Cook and stir untill thickened. Stir in 1 pint blueberries; cook and stir until hot.

Makes 6-8 servings
