The artists of the Driftless region will be presenting a visual, culinary, and musical feast for you on Saturday & Sunday, September 19 & 20, 2015 at the Beauford T. Anderson Park in Soldiers Grove WI. The 11th Annual Driftless Area Art Festival runs from 10 am to 5 pm on Saturday and 10 am to 4 pm on Sunday in the geographic center of the Driftless Area.
The creations from the 73 visual artists for 2015 include works in pottery, ceramics, fiber, glass, jewelry, wood working, mixed media (2D & 3D), painting, and photography. The art you find here will be originals and limited production prints. The artists are inspired by the rolling hills, winding rivers, and scenic bluffs of the Driftless region. Some of the works are practical and useful and some are pieces to inspire you to dream or just breathe in an “ahhhh” feeling.
Musical performers will include Maritza, a group who presents a style typically found in eastern Europe. The Klezmer and cello make this music haunting in one selection and energetic dance music in the next piece.
Patchouli will bring you “new American folk” music – a style that is down-to-earth and blends folk, pop, jazz, and even flamenco!
The Roddys will present their alternative folk music on Sunday morning. You will hear some fine banjo playing in their original songs.
Joe and Vicki Price round-out the musical performances for the festival. Their foot-stomping country blues will keep you entertained until the very end of the performance!
The culinary experience is one of artistry and great taste! This year, there is a new Edible Arts exhibit which shows off the traditions of fine baking, cooking, pickling, and canning, in the Driftless Area. These culinary artists will be demonstrating their methods and selling the products of their artistry. These displays and demos compliment the food vendors who will offer meals and snacks each day.
The Culinary Artists include eight vendors offering a variety of foods to keep you supplied with energy needed to visit all the art venues over the two days. Kickapoo Coffee is an award-wining coffee roaster and will offer Coffees and Lattes to accompany the scones, muffins, and cookies produced in their ovens. Fresh French crepes will be made by Crepe Jen Luc, a Paris-born chef. Chef Luc will be making both sweet and savory crepes as well as French pastries. Yum!
Just by eating a delicious dinner of Baked Garlic Thyme Chicken with Potato Salad and Weeping Tomatoes you support the services provide by the Soldiers Grove Lions Club and the Ridge & Valley Restorative Justice.
Young artists also have a place at this festival. The KidsArt Gallery shows the talent of elementary and middle school students from all parts of the Driftless Area. The Kid’s Creativity Zone (in one of the festival tents) will be a popular destination for young artists to experiment with various art mediums.
