Buena Vista Park & Danzinger Vineyards & Winery near Sparta, Wisconsin. When you come to Southwest Wisconsin the Hidden Valleys area, there is sidebar-activities-8something wonderful to see and do at this time of the year.  Our guests have told us about Buena Vista Park in Alma, Wisconsin.  They came to go “Birding” and at this time of the year the birds are spectacular.  It is a small park with a big view of the Mississippi River for several miles to the north and the south. The raptor migration along this area of the river is amazing in the Spring you can see Red-trailed Hawks, Peregrine Falcons and Broad-winged Hawks. The wood area have a lot of songbirds including Baltimore Orioles, Scarlet Tanagers, Great-crested Flycatchers and Red-bellied Woodpeckers. 608-685-6234.

We provide a shuttle service to the other end of the trail so you are able to ride the whole trail and then back to the B&B. This trail can be biked no matter how many miles you would like to ride. You can always keep going on connecting trail also. Winter Extravaganza at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area -Sparta, Wisconsin

The annual Winter Extravaganze at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, located by Fort McCoy.

Scheduled activities include slalom races, snowboard rail jam, snow adventure race, snow-pile dig, big air, gunny sack race, and an obstacle course. The event is open to the public.

Skiing, X-Country Skiing and Snow Tubing in Wisconsin Now Open!

Come to Sparta, Wisconsin – WE HAVE THE SNOW for some of the Best Skiing, Cross country skiingX-country Skiing, Snow Tubing and Snow shoeing around.  Fort McCoy’s Whitetail Ridge Ski Area is now open and will offer expanded Saturday hours.  Regular Friday hours will be 4:30-9pm. Saturday hours will begin at 10 a.m. and run to 9 p.m. Sunday hours are noon-6 p.m.

  • Skiers and snowboarders will have access to slopes ranging from beginning levels to those with a vertical drop of more than 185 feet and up to 1,300 feet in length.
  • Snowtubers will have five 800-foot-long tubing lanes to enjoy.
  • Cross-Country skiing trails also are available if natural snow conditions permit.
    Come, relax and warm yourselves in the chalet, get snacks at the snack bar and rent equipment if you need. A warming area and bonfire pit at the bottom of the skiing/snowtubing slopes also are available. The National Ski Patrol will provide safety support for the facility. This area is 5 miles from the Franklin Victorian Bed and Breakfast where you can stay overnight and ski or tube by day. We would love for you to stay with us and keep warm and sip on hot-coco when you return from a full fun day outdoors.

The 5th annual Norwalk “Rails to Trails Marathon” will be held in Norwalk Park, 104 E Railroad St. Norwalk, WI on Sunday, Nov. 4.
To register for the marathon, go to the Rails to Trails marathon website or Call Theresa Lehner at 608-823-7942 or send her an email to talehner@yahoo.com for a registration form.
A portion of the money raised at the annual event is used to beautify the Norwalk Community.
In addition, proceeds will be used for scholarships at Brookwood High School.

Black River State Forest Annual candlelight ski/hike/snowshoe is scheduled for Saturday, February 4, 2012, from 6 to 9 pm.

The event will begin and end at the Smrekar Trail Parking Lot located four miles East of Millston on county Rd O, then North for a mile on Smrekar Road.

The event is sponsored by the Black River Forest Trail Foundation as a fundraiser to support operations of this trail system.

The event will be held with or without snow, AND WE NOW HAVE SNOW!

Geo-Caching and Winter Extravaganze events in Sparta, Wi- Franklin Victorian Bed and Breakfast

The Geocaching event begins Jan. 1 and continues to March 1. Geocaching is an outdoor activity in which players try to locate hidden geocaches, using GPS-enabled devices. Participants can pick up geocache coordinated at Pine View Campground or Whitetail Ridge Ski Area, strap on your snow schoes or cross country skis and head out to search for the GPS locations. When a geocashe is located, sign and turn in the entry slip for a change to win a prize. Participants also can rent snowshoes or Cross-county skis and GPS devices from Whitetail Ridge Ski Area.

The annual Winter Extravaganza at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area will be held Jan. 28. Activities scheduled are an Adventure Race, Snow Tubing, skiing, slalom races, snowboard rail jam, snow pile dig, and an obstacle course. Discounted Lift Tickets and Tubing will be available.

Rails to Trails Full & Half Marathon races, Norwalk WI 2011

Mark your calendar now to come out to Norwalk Wisconsin on November 6 for the 4rd Annual Rails to Trails Marathon races. Be it that you attend as a participant or a spectator, the Rails to Trails Marathon is a fun and exciting marathon race which is not only a race for die-hard runners, but is walker friendly as well.

In addition to the full marathon there will also be a half marathon, 1 mile Fun Run, 5K and a Chicken-Que which is included in the full Marathon and half Marathon entry fee. Click Here for the complete schedule.

For those who want to run the marathon races, there are aid stations with water, sport drinks and medical aid available every 2 miles.

If you arrive on November 7, there is a Spaghetti Dinner at the Norwalk Community Center which is included in the Marathon and half Marathon entry fee as well.
