The annual Winter Extravaganze at Whitetail Ridge Ski Area will be held Saturday, Jan. 26, located by Fort McCoy.

Scheduled activities include slalom races, snowboard rail jam, snow adventure race, snow-pile dig, big air, gunny sack race, and an obstacle course. The event is open to the public.

The Canadian Pacific Holiday Train is coming to Sparta, WI. It will arrive at 7pm on Sunday December 9th, 2012. Location will be at the Sparta Area Chamber on South Water and Milwaukee ST, South Side of the tracks.  Bring a food good for the local food pantries. Come and listening to the entertainment and sing along with everyone! What a great time and Fun will be by all.

On The Trail Beer, Wine & BBQ Challenge- This event will be in walking distance from the Franklin Victorian Bed & Breakfast. It will be very entertaining and a day full of fun things to do, see and taste!
September 15, 2012
Evans Bossard Park, Sparta, WI

The BBQ kickoff will begin at 8:00 AM and the Beer and Wine Garden will open at Noon. Sampling of Beer and Wine from 2:00-4:00 pm. The Sampling will include local breweries as well as local wine distributors.
Awards will be handed out or Homebrews, Amateur Wine Making, as well as BBQ.

There will be Live entertainment by Honey N Rust and The Pat Watters Band. Tickets are available for purchase at Westside Wine & Spirits for $30.00. The Live Music starts at 1:00 pm.

The Driftless Area Art Festival is a celebration of the visual, performance, and culinary arts of the Driftless Area, which includes Southwest Wisconsin, Northwest Iowa, Southeast Minnesota, and Northwest Illinois.  Just in its 8th year, it is already being recognized as a unique regional event.  Not only is the event itself a pleasure, but the trip there– though the scenic Driftless Area in fall colors– is a enjoyable and memorable experience. Civil War Demonstration Event in Sparta, Wisconsin

Sparta will host a free Civil War demonstration and program that will be presented on the Monroe County Courthouse lawn, Court and Main Street, Sparta, Wisconsin. This event will happen just walking distance from the Franklin Victorian Bed and Breakfast.

June 30, 2012, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Watch musket firing, taste Hardtack, play games from the 1800s, do fun crafts, witness drill demonstration and much more. The event is FREE family fun for all ages.  Rain location is the Local History Room, 200 W. Main St., Sparta, just across the street.

Its official Bike season is here!  The tunnels are open and the tourist will be biking into town.  With the gas prices falling come and plan a family, friends event on the bike trail.  We have some of the most beautiful country side in Wisconsin, go bike the trails and see why so many come here.  The Franklin Victorian Bed and Breakfast offers a bike shuttle service, inside secure bike storage, flashlights for the tunnels and bike trail pass are available.

High school Graduation is on May 25th.  If you have a senior who is graduating come stay with us during this busy time for the friends and family and give them a break by spending your overnight stays here. Romance on a Budget during this Heart Filled Month Valentines

Little Things Mean A Lot at this time of year. With Valentine’s Day right around the corner and all the items in the stores, you can do Romance on a Budget and here are 10.
Here are a few suggestions for both with love in the air.

1. Gift wrap a wishbone in a jewelry box. Send it to her with a note that says, “I wish you were here.”

2. Unplug the TV. Put a note on the screen saying, “Turn me on instead.”

3. Go through revolving doors together.

4. Keep candles in the car. Eat dinner by candle light the next time you go to McDonald’s.

5. Run your hands under hot water before joining your partner in bed(!)

6. Look—no, gaze—into each other’s eyes more often.

7. Write him a little love note. Insert it into the book he’s reading.

8. Pick wildflowers from a field or the side of the road during the year.

9. The relationship secret that’s not really a secret: Express your love in lots of little ways.

10. Make a GIANT greeting card out of a big cardboard box.

Sparta is a city in and the county seat of Monroe County, Wisconsin, United States, along the La Crosse River. The population was 9,522 at the 2010 census.

Climate- Sparta’s location in the United States’ upper midwest gives the area a temperate, continental climate. The warmest month of the year is July, with an average high temperature of 85°F (29°C), with overnight low temperatures averaging 63°F (18°C). January is the coldest month, with high temperatures averaging 26°F (-4°C), with the overnight low temperatures around 6°F (-14°C).

Transportation-The Sparta/Fort McCoy Airport serves general aviation for the area. Railroad tracks owned by Canadian Pacific Railway (CPR) pass through Sparta providing freight service.
The city is served by several major highways, including Interstate 90, Wisconsin State Highway 16, Wisconsin State Highway 21, Wisconsin State Highway 27,and Wisconsin State Highway 71.
