From boutiques to restaurants and everything in between, these business leaders are not only making their dreams come true but making Sparta a great place to live or visit. One of the most popular stores in town is KEPS Naturals on Main Street. This eco-friendly gift shop was started by Jacki Jaeger and offers a wide selection of gifts for any occasion. You’ll find USA-made clothing, handmade body products, locally made jewelry, essential oils, and tons of unique gifts. When visiting, make sure to find your way over to the bicycling section for an ode to the Bicycle Capital of America, Sparta.
Sparta’s official ‘drinkery’ was a hit from the start. Owner Kristen Gust is a familiar name around the town since she not only runs the popular bar, but is the current mayor of Sparta! Head in and grab a signature cocktail, a glass of wine, or a cold locally brewed beer. If you are a bourbon fan, sign up for their Bourbon Club which rewards you with 3 pours of any bourbon each month.
Earlier this year, Jen Wangen opened up an interior design store in Sparta. She helps members of the community build their new homes or remodel their older ones. Each project that she works on showcases the unique personalities of the owner but maintains the same level of sophistication and balance that Jen brings to the space.
One of the funnest shops in town is a local art store owned and operated by Anne Axelsen. Not only can you wander in for a little retail therapy and pick up some handmade jewelry or a unique piece of home decor, but you can actually create your own art in the studio! Sign up for a class and create a personalized etched mug, learn how to paint, or create your own wooden message board.
One of the most unique shops in Sparta is Candles By Kim & Primitive Decor. Kim makes all of the candles herself right here in Sparta and delivers them in cute jelly jars for a little country flair. Fall in love with the scents that will leave a room smelling incredible in no time. She also sells charming pieces for season decor or permanent additions to your home!
For over 40 years, Dorine’s has been a pillar of the community. In the kitchen where the magic happens, you can find Chris working hard to create incredible food. She has worked in the restaurant industry for a long time and is currently the head cook, manager, and baker for one of Sparta’s most iconic restaurants.
Rachel McPherson & Staci Bruce opened Urban Nest in 2011 and were so successful that they decided to move into a larger space. They teamed up with Julie Burke, owner of Lizzie’s boutique to open a unique store in a beautifully renovated historic building. Inside you’ll find chic clothes, stylish booties, and home decor items to add some glamour to your house.
Spruce up your bedroom or add the perfect accent rug to your living room with the help of mother-daughter duo Connie Bakken & Crystal Treu. The two opened Quilt Corner in 2002 and the business has been a hit ever since. They have all the tools and supplies necessary to create personalized and unique quilts plus they host classes to help you craft your own piece of art.
